As we enter the final days before school re-opens, the Consumer Affairs Commission advises you to use the checklist below to make sure your child is “all set” for the new school year.
- Pay School Fee. If you are having difficulty, speak to the school’s Guidance Cousellor or Principal.
- Review your child’s book list. Identify what you can borrow, rent and what you need to buy.
- Check on your child’s school supplies (uniforms, books, pens etc) before you go shopping.
- Ensure that you have the correct copy of the book before writing the child’s name in it.
- Put the child’s name on items such as school bags, books, lunch boxes and clothing.
- Purchase in bulk and save on items such as exercise books, pens, pencils.
- Purchase hardcover exercise and textbooks as these tend to last longer.
- Wrap books to ensure the cleanliness and care of the texts.
- Shop around for the best prices.
- Buy school supplies that are durable.
- Take your child to the doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist (eye doctor) or clinic for check up and for their immunization shots.
- Budget for lunch, snacks, field trips, extra lessons, transportation and health care.
- Arrange transportation to and from school or teach your child the route.
- Ensure your child knows how to care for his/her school supplies.
- Speak to your child about any fears they might have.
- Get excited about the new school year so that your child will follow your lead.
