THE 16.5% GCT BECOMES EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2005

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) has received reports of vendors applying 16.5% GCT on various items. The Commission, uses this opportunity to remind the consuming public and business persons that the new GCT Regime announced by the Government on April 14 DOES NOT take effect until Sunday, May 1, 2005.

In one case handled thus far, the proprietor expressed that the “error” resulted from a “genuine misunderstanding” that has since been rectified. Other vendors who may have already begun collections of 16.5% are being urged to REFRAIN FROM DOING SO IMMEDIATELY.

Members of the public are encouraged to be on the look out for such practices and to call our offices at 926-1650-2 or Toll Free at 1-888-991-4470 to report any such occurrences or for further clarification on this or any other related matter.

Please remember to ask for, obtain, check and retain your receipt(s) for all purchases.

For further details please contact Mr. Raymond Pryce, Director of Research, Information and Communication Contact Number: 926 – 1650-2
