The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) carried out an island wide survey in regard to school textbook prices between the 31st July and August 4, 2006. The objective of the survey was to gather and have available to Consumers sufficient data on the price and availability of texts on an island wide basis so as to allow them to make informed choices.
The intention of the survey was to capture data from all outlets. However, from an island wide list of 71 outlets we gathered data from 68 participating bookshops as two establishments were closed at the time of the survey, while one refused to cooperate.
The prices presented in the report reflect the retail prices which obtained at the time of the survey for 17 core subject areas. The CAC therefore does not guarantee the availability and prices reported for subsequent periods. The number of texts surveyed totaled ninety-five (95), sixty seven (67) being Secondary Level Texts and twenty eight (28) being Primary Level Texts. The information is presented in a regional format and by core subjects for ease of reference.
